Versailles

I went to Versailles today with Janet and John.  We took the suburban train - it took about 40 minutes to get there.  Versailles is so over-the-top ornate it makes you wonder why the revolution didn't occur earlier.    Here's the canopy over Marie Antoinette's bed.  Do you think they used enough gold in this bedroom?

The gardens are huge and spectacular.  It must cost a fortune to maintain them.

Sorry, folks, but lunch wasn't particularly French or particularly interesting.  We got baked potatoes from a street vendor just outside the Grand Trianon.  I had smoked salmon and creme fraiche on mine, Janet had a plain potato, and John had one with chili.  There were no tables, but we managed to eat them sitting on a park bench.

Today's cheeses:  Munster and Camembert
