Parc Monceau Neighborhood

We got a late start today, and immediately headed for lunch near Place de la République.  We went to an Alsatian restaurant where I had flammenkuche, a German version of pizza, but with creme fraiche, bacon, and onions.

Then it was on to our next self-guided walking tour, in the Parc Monceau neighborhood.  This is a well-to-do neighborhood and the park was full of joggers and families with children.  It has some interesting sculptures, some of which appear to be ruins, much older than they actually are.  Here's the homage to Guy de Maupassant and the colonnade.

I saw this architectural detail on a building near the park.

Today's cheeses:  Comté and Brie de Meaux

  1. Hi Michelle,

My husband and I are visiting Paris and we're looking for an authentic Parisian apartment to lay our weary heads. I've found some great places in the following areas and was wondering if you could shed some light on some of the neighborhoods. We've found lovely places in the 111 Arrondissement, Saint Lazare Republique, Monceau and Quartier Chinois districts. We're looking for some excitement, but we aren't party - people. We definitely want parks and coffee shops and museums at our finger-tips. Any ideas for us?

    1. Hi, Amina.
I'm not familiar with the Saint Lazare neighborhood. Parc Monceau area is beautiful and well-to-do. Republique is a working class area, becoming trendy. You can walk to the Marais from there. If you choose that area, make sure to visit the boulangerie, Du Pain et Des Idees. I highly recommend Republique. Quartier Chinois is also a working class area and not nearly as touristy as the other neighborhoods. We stayed in the Butte aux Cailles neighborhood there and enjoyed it very much. Have a great time on your trip! Margaret
